FAQ's
Where are your products made?
> Our blankets and shorts are all sewn in Brooklyn, New York by hardworking individuals paid a fair living wage. The linen is sourced from either Eastern Europe or India, and all tie-dying is done by hand in Brooklyn as well.
> Brooklyn Beach Hair is made in small batches of 100-200 in our Brooklyn Studio. We source all our essential oils and supplies from various companies in Canada and the USA, so if they run out of something we may have a slow down on production. So far so good though! Our labels are printed in South Carolina and glass bottles are purchased from Seattle, Washington.
Are your products organic?
> We have several new organic linen products available; three shorts and one beach blanket; listed as such on the site. However, the majority of our linen is not organic.
> Brooklyn Beach Hair is is not a certified organic beauty product, but it is made from all natural ingredients (salt, water, oil) and it's also vegan (no beeswax!) and not tested on animals.
What kind of dye do you use to tie-dye your linen?
> We use Fiber Reactive Procion Dyes which are used for all natural fibers, of which linen is one; it is made from the flax plant. The colors are totally permanent and have been pre-washed several times. Please don't use bleach on them, even Oxy-Clean oxygen bleach. And do expect them, like any bright color, to fade in the sun eventually after repeated exposure.
How would I care for your linen products?
> It's super simple; just machine wash everything in cold water and tumble dry medium to low, or hang to dry.
Linen is a strong durable fabric, but gets softer with use and age. It also dries very quickly so its perfect for the beach. But as mentioned above – do not bleach.
If I decide to order, what is the shipping time?
> We usually get to mailing orders within 1-3 days, and we ship US Postal Service Priority 2-Day Shipping, so you should have your order anywhere in the continental US in about one week's time.
If I'm not happy with my product, what is your return policy?
> We are happy to accept exchanges or returns on the linen products within 15 days of purchase. It must be unused and in the original packaging. You will be responsible for the return shipping and once it is back in Brooklyn, we will refund you online.
> Unfortunately we cannot accept returns on the Brooklyn Beach Hair. If you are unsure about the scent or if it will be a good styling product for your particular hair, order the travel size perhaps, and if you're not in love, it makes a great gift! Also, you can look on our Stocklists page and see if there is a shop in your area carrying the spray where there is always a tester to try out on your hair.
> If you purchased your item at a one of our wonderful retailers, please understand that each store has its own return policy and may not be returned to us.
> We want you to love all your Brooklyn Beach purchases, so if you are unhappy or have comments about anything, please get in touch at brooklynbeachinfo@gmail.com!
What if my Brooklyn Beach Hair arrives broken, leaking or damaged by the Postal Service?
> This is very unlikely as we pack our bottles very well for shipping! But if you receive a damaged, broken or defective product, we will refund your purchase, or supply you with a new bottle. Please contact us immediately - brooklynbeachinfo@gmail.com - and we will email you a shipping label, in this case, to return the defective bottle to us in Brooklyn. We will then mail off your replacement bottle or issue a refund.
Is there any sort of hair type that shouldn't use Brooklyn Beach Hair?
> Since there's no way to know every hair or skin type (your scalp is skin remember), we suggest that if your hair or skin is sensitive to the ocean water, or your hair has a treatment on it suggesting not swimming in the ocean, probably best to steer clear. If you're not near the ocean and don't know how your hair will react, we have a lot of sea salt in our product to create the messy, separated and perhaps beachy waves you get after a day at the ocean. Its not harmful to 99% of folks hair, plus there's a dose of jojoba oil to keep the drying effects of the salt down. But as any styling product, see how it works for you and adjust your amounts accordingly or discontinue if you notice any adverse effects. Our sprays also have natural, yet quite strong scents - so if you're sensitive to essential oils or scents of any kind, this may not be the product for you.
